HILLINGDON police will be stepping up patrols in the lead up to Halloween, bonfire night and during half-term.

A local plan is in place to prevent anti-social behaviour at this busy time.

As half-term approaches, officers have been visiting schools to give young people safety tips, and there will be after-school patrols at key locations – town centres and transport hubs – to disrupt robbery and prevent violence.

Metal detecting arches will be installed at various locations to deter the carrying of weapons, and officers will do test purchases with Hillingdon Council trading standards officers regarding the sale of fireworks, alcohol and over-the-counter weapons.

Parents are also being urged to accompany young trick-or-treaters on their Halloween rounds, and older children are asked to respect people’s property – or wind up in trouble.

Hillingdon Borough Commander, Steve Kershaw, said: “We are here to help make sure everyone can enjoy the festivities and stay safe in Hillingdon.

“We have a local plan in place, drawing together experience and successful tactics from previous years, focusing our resources and working closely with the communities.

“I would like to stress our operations are not aimed at demonising young people, the large majority of whom behave safely and responsibly. Those intent on committing crime and anti-social behaviour will face the consequences.”
