Police in Shepherd's Bush had to call for support after a group of youths refused to cooperate when officers tried to enforce a dispersal zone yesterday evening.
A police officer was assaulted after approaching the seven youths in Uxbridge Road at around 7pm, resulting in a disturbance which drew crowds and stopped traffic near the junction with Hetley Road.
An 18-year-old boy was arrested following the assault and remains in custody. The officer involved was not injured and calm was restored after the youths were moved on.
The dispersal zone was brought in covering the area between Uxbridge Road and Goldhawk Road, along with land further south towards Hammersmith, to try to tackle problems with drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.
