Police are asking a good samaritan to come forward after they helped pull a woman to safety as she was about to jump off a bridge.

Officers were called to Battersea Bridge in Chelsea on Tuesday (October 28) at 12.06am to reports of a suicidal female on the bridge and when they got there they found a woman sitting on a ledge beyond the barrier which overhangs the Thames.

The Marine Support Units had not yet arrived so the two Kensington and Chelsea officers tried to engage with her but the woman, in her late twenties, made a lunge towards the river so they went onto the ledge and managed to grave her by her arms.

They were then helped by two members of the public who helped pull the woman back over the barrier to safety where she was then taken for treatment under the mental health act.

A police spokesman said: “Police managed to get the details of one of the members of the public, but the other one did not leave their details.

“We would very much like to thank this person for their help and would ask them to contact Chief Superintendent Ellie O’Connor, borough commander at Kensington and Chelsea Police on telephone number 101.”
