Police are dismayed their appeal for witnesses to the savage attack on an elderly woman has brought a poor response.

Valerie Dancer, 63, still remains critically ill in Charing Cross Hospital since the incident which happened near Carlyon Road, Hayes, on November 25.

Last week the Gazette published a police e-fit of the attacker. A reward of £5,000 is also being offered for information leading to the arrest of the man who seriously injured the 63-year-old.

Detective Inspector Mark Brookes, leading the investigation said: "We have not received a response from the public that we would normally expect as a result of such an appalling attack.

"I urge the public again to please come forward if you have any information that could help our enquiries.

"I have been in contact with Valerie's family and I have also visited Valerie in hospital. She is extremely ill with life threatening injuries."

And he added: "If anyone is not confident in speaking to the police then I would ask them to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
