The custody suite at Chiswick police station will be closed in the New Year.

Hounslow borough commander Carl Bussey said the Metropolitan Police has decided to permanently shut down the suite because it is one of the least efficient in London due to its limited size and facilities.

However he has assured the public a visible police presence will continue to remain in Chiswick and this will not be reduced.

Mr Bussey added: "Chiswick Police Station will remain open as an operational base for emergency response officers as well as for our neighbourhood policing teams and the opening hours for the station office will not change.

"Closing Chiswick custody will allow me to relocate the community safety unit in order to accommodate all our detective functions under one roof at Hounslow Police Station - I am confident that this will increase the resilience and productivity of the criminal investigation department."
