Memorial statues of angels in Fulham’s cemeteries have been beheaded in a spate of vandalism.

A total of nine statues in Bishops Park, Margravine Cemetery, Fulham Cemetery and All Saints Church have been vandalised by a vandal who police think is sneaking into the parks after they are locked up at dusk.

The spate started overnight on October 27 when five Wedgewood statues in the Pryors Bank area of Bishops Park were damaged, with two being decapitated.

On the night of Remembrance Sunday a statue in the middle of the pond area in Bishops Park had its head removed, an angel in Margravine Cemetery was beheaded, as was one in Fulham Cemetery and a bronze statue’s head was taken off in All Saints Church’s cemetery.

Following the first incident, Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s parks police and Met Police officers stepped up patrols in the large area.

After looking at CCTV footage of Margravine Cemetery at about 9.30pm on November 10, police believe it is a lone male who has been attacking the statues and are asking people to keep a look out for vandals or anybody climbing in or out of a park when it is closed, and to call 999 immediately.

A spokesman for Hammersmith and Fulham Council, said: “We are deeply dismayed by this vandal’s senseless and completely insensitive acts of destruction. We have stepped up our parks police patrols to bring this heartless individual to justice. I encourage anyone with information to come forward and help our investigation.”

Police have put posters around Fulham to try to catch the vandal beheading angels
