A "suspect package" forced police to close part of a main road in Hayes.

A stretch of the A437 Dawley Road, up to the Swallowfield Way junction, was sealed off from around 2.30pm this afternoon (Wednesday).

It is believed that the package was passingthrough the DHL sorting office in Kestrel Way when it was flagged.

A police spokesman said that the package turned out not to be suspicious, and officers were 'stood down' and the cordone subsequently removed at 4.20pm.

There were still severe tailbacks and slow-moving traffic on the surrounding road network an hour later.
