A police crackdown on burglary in Harrow has been so successful it is being extended for another month.

Operation Regulus is using predictive crime mapping technology to bring down reports of burglary. The recorded crime data identifies where future burglaries are more likely to occur.

As of Tuesday (January 27), the operation had seen a 55 per cent reduction in burglary for the east neighbourhood of the borough, and has proved such a success that it will be extended into February.

During the operation officers have carried out traffic stops, high-visibility patrols, covert patrols, given crime prevention advice and received community feedback.

The operation will be extended for a further month to enable us to build on these results. We will be continually assessing local crime data to ensure we can position our resources for maximum effect."
