A planning application will finally be submitted to regenerate Greenford’s former GlaxoSmithKline site, after almost two years of consultation.

Subject to permission being granted, the space could soon be transformed into a high quality mixed use development for employment, residential, retail, education, leisure uses, cafes, restaurants, community space and public open space including improvements to the canal side.

Since 2011, owner of the site Stolkin Greenford Ltd and their consultant team have been working closely with Ealing Council and the community and now aim to submit their application by the end of this month, with the purpose of bringing the GSK site back into active and appropriate use.

Proposals include a new cinema, the reopening of Berkeley Avenue, the conversion of the Grade II Listed Glaxo House, which was originally built in the 1930s, into modern residential units.

The northern section of the site already has a business and education hub and two modern office buildings which will remain.

This includes Horsenden House which is now occupied by the higher education college GSM London and Glaxo Wellcome House, a high quality headquarters building currently being marketed to businesses with the aim of bringing more jobs.

The project team are confident that the proposals for one of the most important Brownfield sites in West London will deliver a major economic boost to Greenford and the whole borough, as well as creating more job opportunities.

Nick Cooper, community planning director at Iceni Projects Limited, the planning and development consultancy leading the planning process for the project, said: “There is local support from the community and councillors as we have tried to work closely with everyone, addressing their concerns. We are confident that we have something that will benefit all.”

A public briefing session to explain the proposals is being held at the GSK Site Security Office, Greenford Road, on Thursday (November 21) from 5pm to 9pm.
