England's patron saint enjoyed some more modern military back-up as he led a St George's Day parade through Whitton.

The legendary dragon-slayer, minus his horse, was joined by a tank and other military vehicles, along with a cavalcade of classic cars and motorbikes, as he marched along Whitton High Street in his chain mail on Saturday (April 26).

Scores of other people, including rugby players, a military band and horse and carriage, joined the procession, as crowds, many waving St George's Crosses, lined the streets to watch.

The annual parade, held three days after the patron saint's day, kicked off a day of fun in the High Street, where revellers enjoyed children's rides, street entertainment and market stalls.

The event was organised by Whitton Business Association, with sponsorship from the Rugby Football Union and Whitton Day Nursery. Proceeds from the day will go towards the cost of the Whitton Christmas lights and to local charities.
