Elderly people took part in a Mexican Wave as part of a world record breaking attempt which also celebrated National Care Home Day.

Residents at Norton House retirement home in Arneway Street, Westminster, joined in the Mexican Wave last Friday (June 20) which came across from Australia via Skype to start the wave in the UK.

The wave then flew across the country moving from county to county as part of the celebration day aimed at encouraging people to visit their local care home.

Felicia Imafidon, manager of the care home, run by not-for-profit organisation Anchor, said: “It was a fantastic chance for us all to show why we are so proud to work in the care sector. There is a stigma often associated when an older person moves into care and we want to challenge that.

“At Anchor we always organise a varied programme of meaningful activity which is beneficial to the residents’ mental and physical well-being as well as being fun.”

Team leader Asmita Devkota added that all the home’s residents had a really good time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
