Over 100 elderly residents enjoyed a Christmas lunch served by Phoenix High School 6th Formers on Friday.

Local MP Andy Slaughter joined in to support the pupils.

Phoenix High School executive head teacher Alan Streeter said: “This is the third year that we have run our elderly Christmas lunch. Phoenix staff and post 16 students volunteer their time to provide this opportunity for us to join together in celebration during the festive period. This is a fantastic opportunity for inter-generational learning as well as having a great time.”

Director of development at the school, Garry McMillan, said: “Phoenix High School is a community hub and this event helps us build links with a portion of the community who would not normally have ties with secondary schools. As a school we believe that our remit should extend much further than our students.”
