PETROL thieves have been siphoning fuel from stationary vehicles- with four reported thefts across Hillingdon in the past three weeks.
Police are investigating the unusual trend, which they are attributing to the soaring price of petrol, now nearing £1.30 per litre.
Thieves targeted two HGVs in Stockley Close, West Drayton, just off the Stockley bypass, but have also been hitting cars.
Car owners in Tavistock Road, Yiewsley, and another in Balmoral Drive, Hayes, also fell victim.
Police did say however, that despite this type of crime being on the up, figures for petrol 'drive-offs', people leaving petrol stations without paying, had remained steady in the months September to January.
Richard Walker, chair of the Hillingdon motorists forum, said: "This news does not surprise me, the price of petrol is a regular topic of discontent with our members. If these thieves put half as much effort into doing something honest as they do dishonest they'd be millionaires."
