A PETITION has started to oppose Barnet FC’s plans to serve alcohol at its new stadium.

The club’s application to extend its current licence to all four stands at The Hive Football Centre, in Camrose Avenue, Edgware, was just one of the topics discussed at a public meeting organised by Bob Blackman, Conservative MP for Harrow East, at Canons High School in Shaldon Road, Edgware, on Tuesday.

Mr Blackman said: “We had about 150 to 200 people present and the vast majority were local residents who are concerned about the current activities and planned activities at The Hive.

“We took contributions from the floor, and [Barnet chairman] Tony Kleanthous also spoke.”

Copies of the petition and a template letter objecting to the club’s premises licence application were circulated among the audience to fill in.

Mr Blackman said neighbours were also worried about the potential disruption of having first team matches being played at The Hive.

He added: “There are no traffic or parking restrictions in the local area and it’s going to take a year before the council can put any controls in place.”
