A PETITION against a proposed Sainsbury's supermarket was hand delivered to the Prime Minister.

Nick Hurd, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner and Tony Ellis, chairman of the Save Our Northwood (SON) campaign group delivered it to No 10 last week.

Lewenna Bouhrine, owner Taylor Made Sandwiches in Green Lane and Stav Panayi, owner of Steve’s Hairdressers, also in Green Lane, joined them.

Their businesses, along with 15 others, will be forced to close and bulldozed if the 47,000 sq.ft development goes ahead.

"I arranged these opportunities because It is really important that senior decision makers know how strongly Northwood feels," said Mr Hurd.

"Local businesses need to be treated fairly and this is the wrong development for the town centre. That was our message to the top."

The petition was signed by around 7,000 people and calls for a 'more sympathetic' scheme.

It requests says the development is contrary to the London Plan and the Hillingdon Local Plan.

It says it will devastate the heart of the community, destroy, without compensation, 17 small businesses, have an adverse effect on the viability of the remaining businesses and bring traffic chaos to an already congested town centre.

Developer Bride Hall's plans will go on show at a public consultation in January.
