A man has been rushed to hospital after he was involved in a collision with a car on Kew Bridge.

Paramedics treated a pedestrian in his 20s for chest injuries before he was taken as priority to St Mary's Hospital, this afternoon (23).

The accident has caused major traffic chaos in the area with queues back over Chiswick roundabout to Hangar Lane.

Kew Bridge was closed in both directions for more than an hour, but has now re-opened northbound.

Southbound remains closed.

People who are set to make a getaway for the Bank Holiday weekend as well as the half-term school break should expect severe delays.

TfL Traffic News tweeted: "Kew Bridge is currently closed both ways due to a collision on the bridge.

"Please use another river crossing and expect delays in the area."

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) said they were called just after 2.30pm to reports of a road traffic accident.

A LAS spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and car on Kew Bridge.

We sent one ambulance crew and a hazardous response team.

Staff treated a man reported to be in his 20s for chest injuries. He was taken as priority to St Mary's Hospital."

Police said they were called at 2.39pm to a road traffic collision in which a 20-year-old male had been struck by a vehicle.

A police spokesman said: "His injuries were not found to be life threatening or life changing.

"As a result of the accident a number of roads in the immediate area were closed."
