YES, we do have this flooding problem in Victoria Road, South Ruislip, and have done since the council did major works to the culvert that runs parallel to Victoria Road.

No, it's not caused by blocked rain gullies.

The flooding problem is so bad it renders the pedestrian crossing to and from the school unusable until the water level very slowly subsides.

Over two years ago, when I was a committee member of South Ruislip Residents' Association, I had a site meeting with one of the council's project engineers about this problem. He said he would get it sorted but, as usual, nothing happened.

Since then I have complained to my local councillor about this matter but still nothing has happened, other than to be told that this problem is recognised and is being looked into.

This is another example of sub-standard works that the council accepts and we, the taxpayer, will end up having to pay someone again to have poor work rectified. The same situation applies to pothole repairs that I have complained about many times to both the council and my local councillor, but nothing changes.

If the council officer who agrees to accept and pay for these sub-standard works was removed from his job, as he would be in the private sector, things would soon change.

While on the subject of potholes and poor road surfaces, it is a fact of life that drivers are forced to concentrate on the road surface some 30yds or so in front of their car in order to avoid potholes that will damage the tyres and suspension of their car, instead of looking 150 to 250yds further ahead for other potential hazards, thus increasing the risk of being involved in a accident.

The council has a lot to answer for.
