WHAT an example Gillian Norton sets. In these difficult financial times, restraint is necessary by all of us and chief executives should be setting an example.

A pay freeze would hardly harm someone who is already receiving in excess of £150,000.

Surely it is time for the council gravy train to be halted. There must be a ceiling on council executive pay, or in a very short time we, the taxpayers, will be funding millionaires!

The spokesman for the Local Government Association makes a fatuous comparison with the private sector, where at least something saleable is produced, rather than paper being shovelled around.
