Patients have been warned not to visit a Marylebone dentist who has been barred from treating patients in Britain.
Dr Hans Lock, who practised at the Mermaid Clinic, in Wimpole Street, was suspended by the General Dental Council (GDC) because he did not have insurance.
He will remain suspended from the Dentists Register for the next 18 months, pending a full public inquiry by the GDC's Professional Conduct Committee.
Dr Lock failed to turn up at the hearing when he was suspended on September 10.
A GDC spokeswoman said: "A failure by a dentist to ensure that he or she has appropriate indemnity cover inevitably puts patients at risk. Mr Lock's failure in this regard suggests a lack of insight as to the importance of patients being able to claim any compensation.
"The Committee has, therefore, taken the view that, in order to protect the public, an interim order is necessary pending a full hearing and final determination of this case."
Any patients who have been treated by Mr Lock since September 10, are asked to contact the GDC's Fitness to Practise Team on 020 7009 2701 as this information may support the investigation.
