An accident hotspot in Whitton where five pedestrians have been injured in the last three years is set for an overhaul.

A number of safety measures are planned at the junction of Powder Mill Lane, Hospital Bridge Road and Percy Road, which transport chiefs hope will also ease congestion at the busy intersection.

Richmond Council wants members of the public to have their say about the proposals, which include removing the traffic island in Powder Mill Lane and banning right turns out of Percy Road.

Councillor Stephen Speak, Richmond's cabinet member for highways, said: "Safety and congestion at this junction have been longstanding concerns and we have taken account of residents' suggestions in developing these solutions.

"Now we want residents to let us know their thoughts about our plans before they are implemented."

Other changes planned at the junction, by Whitton Corner Health Centre and Twickenham Cemetery, include introducing a pedestrian countdown and removing railings from one of the traffic islands to widen the carriageway.
