THE Force was strong in Northolt at the weekend when the Star Wars shop held a family fun day to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Iconic villains like Darth Vader and Boba Fett rubbed shoulders with stormtroopers and more than 60 people attended the event at Jedi Robe in Church Road, including young fans from the hospital.

Two actors from the original Star Wars trilogy, Ken Coombs - who played an Imperial officer in Return of the Jedi - and Pam Rose - who played an alien in A New Hope, who spoke to fans and signed autographs.

Visitors were encouraged to don their own Star Wars costumes and take part in activities including a tombola prize, face painting and a jedi magic show.

Erika Sanderson-Clein, who works at The Star Wars Shop and helped organise the event, said: "The atmosphere was incredible, almost like a festival. People were being very generous, not only with their time but also with their money."

The money raised is still being counted but staff are hoping to match the final sum themselves.

The event was the latest in the shop’s ongoing efforts to raise money for Great Ormond Street hospital and was described as “possibly their most ambitious event so far."
