A MOBO award winning musician delighted over 700 youngsters at last weekend’s youth festival.

Gospel rap artist Guvna B, who has won two MOBO awards for Best Gospel Act and Best Gospel Artist in 2011 and 2013 respectively, performed at the One Ealing Youth Festival.

The event, run by youth charity Acts 29, was held in the grounds of Christ The Saviour Church on Saturday.

Angie Bray, MP for Ealing Central and Acton, made the opening speech at the free festival in which she confessed to having spun a few discs herself, much to the surprise of the crowd.

She said: “The festival is a celebration of the positive side to our young people across the borough and is a great initiative by Act 29 who do so much to support the youth in our community. I was honoured to have been invited to give the opening speech in which I let everyone in on a little known fact that their local MP had, once upon a time, been a radio DJ for the British Forces in Gibraltar. It was a really glorious day for Ealing’s youth as the sun shone over Christ The Saviour Church grounds.”

Organiser Prince Laryea said: “It was a fantastic success. There was fantastic live music throughout the day as well as a free BBQ and Haagen Dazs ice cream. A big thank you goes out to Nandos in Bond Street and Ealing Common for donating the chicken and to Ealing’s Lloyd’s Bank and Chelsea Bank’s volunteers, who did a fantastic job serving up the food. We were also delighted to welcome Angie Bray MP who opened the festival.”

Teenagers from Alec Reed Academy and Brentside, Twyford, Cardinal Wiseman, Acton and Greenford high schools took part on the day by putting on their own musical performances

The event was organised by local youth acts charity Acts 29 and supported by churches across the borough including St Johns Ealing, Ealing Christian Centre, Christ The Saviour and also the Living Room Youth Project in Acton.
