As over a million people are expected to descend on Notting Hill this weekend those living on the route can get their gardens cleaned for free post-Carnival.

The celebration of all things Caribbean is an array of colour, music and food but it does mean that when everybody leaves residents are often left with rubbish strewn all over their land.

To help those who have not held a party or traded from their properties during Carnival both Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Councils are offering a free cleaning service for gardens and external basement areas affected on the route.

Clean-up teams get straight to work to clear up the streets of rubbish and at 8pm on both Sunday and Monday of Carnival.

They will also be using footway degreasing machines during the two weeks after Carnival.

In Westminster, cleaning for residents will start on Wednesday (August 27) and will continue until the end of the week while in Kensington and Chelsea it is more difficult to say when it will start as more of Carnival is in the Royal Borough.

The most important detail for residents is to register as soon as possible to give permission for contractors to enter their land.

Westminster residents affected need to sign up for the service here by midnight tomorrow (August 21).

Kensington and Chelsea residents on the route need to sign up by calling 020 7361 3001.
