I WOULD like to respond to the article in the Leader dated August 20, 2008 [Stinking and slimy, weed makes lake spot to avoid].

Last Sunday there was a open day in the picnic area of Little Britain, with bird watching for adults and children and river dipping for the children, which was very busy.

We had a lot of people coming and talking to us. A team had been very busy during that week removing vast amounts of the weed.

Our lake is not the only lake with this problem - it comes with the time of year.

Your picture of the geese could have been any time of the year because it is the way geese look.

The weed has been a big problem but it has not affected the birds from breeding very successfully this year.

The reason for the lake having less birds is because at this time of year, having bred successfully, many have moved on.

We have regular working parties every third Saturday in the month for anybody who would like to come and help or just have a chat.
