An Oxford student found dead in a fume-filled tent has been named in the press as Andrew Kirkman, 20, of Northwood.

The Daily Mail reports his parents are Wendy and Michael. A couple of that name are listed in Addison Way, a street which runs north from the A404 Pinner Road.

Andrew Kirkman, who reportedly attended Rickmansworth School, was discovered in the tent in Port Meadow close to the River Thames on Sunday, a popular spot for walkers and fishermen.

A strong chemical smell was detected coming from the tent and Mr Kirkman was pronounced dead at the scene. Six people were taken to hospital for treatment for the inhalation of chemical fumes.

Thames Valley Police has said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Kirkman's death.

In a statement, Andrew’s parents said: "Andy was loved by everyone who knew him.

"He was a kind young man who took great pleasure in helping other people. He will be sorely missed.

"We ask for the privacy of his family to be respected."

Sir Drummond Bone, Master of Balliol College, Oxford, also issued a statement which said: "It is with deep sadness that we can confirm that Andrew Kirkman, a second year undergraduate at Balliol College reading Physics and Philosophy, died on Sunday on Port Meadow.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to Andrew’s parents and his family and close friends at this extremely difficult time.

"Andrew was a friendly and thoughtful student and a valued contributor to the life of the college. We are offering support and counselling to all those at the college who have been affected by this tragedy."
