FAMILY homes have been saved from being destroyed.

The block of 64 flats at 117 Pinner Road was set to be pulled down after Hillingdon Council served developers Mittal Properties Ltd with a demolition notice in April last year.

Parts of the building had not been built in line with planning permission and the council said this could not be rectified.

Mittal appealed the notice saying the necessary changes could be made without the building being demolished, and last week an independent investigator ruled in their favour.

Over the past few months, directors from Mittal met have with council representatives to discuss compromises on certain aspects and come up with a list of changes which will be made.

The Planning Inspectorate report says: “(The) council indicated that it was satisfied that the alterations to the development set out in further amended plans.

“Accordingly, as the council was also satisfied that the proposed changes are feasible, it considered that it would be disproportionate to require demolition of the building and, subject to conditions and a costs application, it no longer contested the appeal.”

The alterations include; the lowering of the roof parapets; a reduction in the height of the lift and stair housing; changes to the shop front, forecourt and access on Pinner Road including the creation of two shop units and new residential access, with step free access to the lift.

Cosmetic improvements, including painting of balcony railings and rain pipes were also outlined.

Mittal has six months to complete the work.
