Plans for flats on a Harrow high street have been scrapped.

Councillors threw out proposals to build flats at the former site of the Case is Altered pub, in High Street, Wealdstone at a planning committee meeting last night (Thursday).

The development would have meant 24 flats being built in the area and the demolition of the building, which sits next to Wealdstone Police Station, a grade II listed building.

Questions were raised over the close promixity of the proposed buildings to each another and the effect the proposed modern buildings on the character of the area.

Councillor Marilyn Ashton, portfolio holder for planning, development and enterprise, said: "There isn't any room for this and I think this should be recognised.

"The development opposite is not of any beauty, but it does not make it okay to put a fairly bulky building opposite."
