Having received a leaflet from the Liberal Democrats, I am surprised to see they claim that the Conservatives 'take Northwood residents for granted' and that their candidate would be 'an enormous asset on Hillingdon Council'.
My experience as a local resident is that the councillors we have here are very visible.
In fact, only two weeks ago they had a street surgery in Green Lane, giving some great balloons to local children, and yesterday they were seen by friends going in and out of the local shops to see how they can help the owners on local issues.
Another Liberal Democrat on the council would surely be able to do no more than the existing two manage; they do not sit on the major committees and have not even represented their residents on planning since 2002.
Even if their candidate was successful he would have no influence whatsoever, on Northwood issues or any others.
It seems to be the Liberals that are taking advantage of us by trying to piggyback on the work of the residents' association and the current councillors, when in fact the Liberals have little history in Northwood and even fought against their current candidate at the borough election in 2006 when he stood as an Independent.
