A special visitor to the Brent Centre for Young People confirmed an investment which could transform the treatment of those suffering with often overlooked conditions.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg committed to a £150million spend in a bid to improve mental health services and bring them to the standards of physical care during his visit to the Winchester Avenue centre, in Kilburn, on Monday.

In Brent, more than 4,000 children ages five to 16 sought some form of help in dealing with mental health related issues throughout 2010.

Mr Clegg said: “Too often children with mental health problems are being completely let down by the current system, with many suffering from eating disorders going unreported and untreated.

“That’s why we need to act now to transform the current system, intervening earlier with dedicated and targeted community-based services to ensure that we don’t fail this generation or the ones that follow.”
