The New York Jets recorded a clinical victory in their NFL encounter at Wembley, but it seems one player wasn't quite so careful off the pitch.

A prominent member of the American Football team, whom we have chosen not to name, was lucky to be reunited with his wallet after dropping it in west London near to where he was staying.

Jan Robinson said she found the wallet, containing more than $1,000, on the pavement near her home in London Road, Brentford, on Saturday (October 3) evening.

Not being an NFL fan, she initially assumed it was an American who was in town for the Rugby World Cup who had lost all his holiday money.

After some online sleuthing, she worked out who it was and began ringing round hotels to see if he was staying there.

She eventually found the right hotel the following morning and says the club sent someone round soon after to collect the wallet.

The New York Jets take on the Miami Dolphins at Wembley

Despite getting £20 as a reward for her efforts, she said she was a little miffed not to have received a personal thank you from the player concerned.

"I put a lot of effort into finding this fellow and I thought I might get a more thoughtful thank you like a shirt or even tickets to the game at Wembley, so I was a little disappointed," she said.

"During my research, I read about the team shipping over 350 rolls of toilet paper because the paper here is apparently too thin, so I think I'll spend my £20 on a jumbo pack of luxury bog roll in honour of that careless New York Jets player!"

The saga didn't prove too much of a distraction for the player in question, it would appear, as the Jets strolled to a 27-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon (October 4).
