People could soon be able to report crimes at Hounslow Civic Centre, under plans to create a new police counter there.

There are currently three police stations in the borough and two 'contact points' where people can report crimes, following the closure of Brentford police station last year.

Hounslow Council now plans to team up with police to open a new contact point at its headquarters in Lampton Road, Hounslow.

Although the council's offices are only a short stroll from Hounslow police station, the new facility would make it handier for people to combine council business with reporting crime.

A team of 15 police officers, which is jointly funded by the council and the Metropolitan Police, already works out of the Civic Centre.

Hounslow borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Carl Bussey revealed the plans at a crime summit held last night at the council's HQ.

"We're looking at opportunities to have another contact point here at the Civic Centre so when people are coming here to deal with other issues we can have a one stop shop," he said.

The front counter at Hounslow police station is open around the clock and the desk at Chiswick police station is manned during office hours.

Members of the public can also report crimes at contact points at Feltham Police Station, Cornish House, in Brentford, and Heston Library every Wednesday and Thursday, from 6pm-8pm, and on Saturdays, from 2pm-4pm.
