A fitness coach who runs classes across Hillingdon has launched a new keep-fit session specifically for people with cancer.

Becky Haggar has launched the exercise classes to be held on Thursdays from 1.30pm - 2.30pm at the Community Cancer Centre in Fairfield Road, Yiewsley.

Funded by the cancer centre, the sessions will be free to cancer patients and their carers.

Mrs Haggar said: “It's a very very light work out using fun moves and music. The aim is to increase the body’s immune system and build up energy levels.

“Doctors have found that exercise provides a boost to the cells in your body that are assigned to attack bacteria. These cells appear to work more slowly in people that don’t exercise than in those that do.

“It also helps to increase feel good hormones and has an amazing effect on the recovery of cancer patients.

“It also helps with life after cancer and gets patients up and going again to rebuild there lives and confidence,” Mrs Haggar said.

The fitness coach also runs regular classes in Ruislip and Hillingdon during the week as part of Becky's Fun Fitness and hopes to include a pay-as-you-go session as part of her class timetable for people affected by cancer.

Mrs Haggar is chair of Hillingdon Brain Tumour Group which she set up to support people suffering from brain cancer and their families, which last year received charitable status.

She is also standing in the May local elections as a Conservative ward councillor for Eastcote and East Ruislip.

A Vintage Tea party is being held to raise money for the Hillingdon Brain Tumour Group on April 12.

The Link Magazine, which is delivered free to households in certain areas of the borough, is hosting the event from 2pm - 5pm at The Battle of Britain Club in Hillingdon Road, Uxbridge. Go along, enjoy some tea and cake and help raise money for the charity.
