A VITAL service which helps Brent's struggling families will operate out of five new children’s centres in the borough thanks to a cash boost.

Brent Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) already has advisors in children’s centres in Harlesden, Wembley, Kilburn, Willesden and Kingsbury.
Last year Brent CAB advisors operating at children’s centres raised more than two million pounds for Brent residents, recovering child benefit, housing benefit and debt relief for struggling families. This money helped 6,393 children including 3,233 children under five.

Jacqueline Carr, Brent CAB manager, said: “At a time of recession and high unemployment, more Brent families than ever are struggling to make ends meet. Brent CAB provides an essential role in supporting these families.

“We are very grateful to Brent Council for warding us the contract to help even more families and children in five new centres in Wembley, Willesden and Kingsbury.”

The Department of Children and Families at Brent Council have contracted Brent Citizens Advice Bureau to work in five new Brent Children’s Centres, making them Brent CAB’s second biggest funder this year.

A father of a family in Neasden, who has three children under eleven, recently spoke to an advisor at one of Brent’s Children’s Centres and said: “Brent Citizens Advice Bureau helped us to keep our home, thank you.”
