People have been invited to have their say about plans to improve Heston Park, which include opening up new entrances and creating a fitness trail.

The children's playground at the park, off New Heston Road, has already received a face-lift as part of work on the new leisure centre next door. Now the rest of the site is now in line for a makeover.

A team of landscape architects have drawn up wide-ranging proposals to transform the park, and Hounslow Council now wants to hear your views.

Among the biggest changes proposed are creating three new entrances, including one from the old fairground site where homes are being built, and replacing the run-down tennis courts with multi-use games areas, floodlit five-a-side football pitches and cricket nets.

Other plans include:

* a 'trim trail' on which adults can exercise, and a natural play trail for children

* a new synthetic grass cricket wicket

* outdoor table tennis tables

* new trees and soft planting

* durable seating and picnic tables

Councillor Sachin Gupta, Hounslow's leisure chief, said the plans would open up the 'hidden gem', making it more attractive to visitors and tackling known antisocial behaviour hotspots.

"Our masterplan sets out some great ideas for modernising it but we need local people to tell us what they think. That way we can be sure that more and more residents will continue to enjoy the park for years to come," he added.

David Blackett, chairman of Heston Residents' Association, welcomed plans to refurbish the park but said improving security was the 'prime concern'.

"Security at the park is the major problem and I would like to see the gates locked at night. Financial restraints mean a park warden is probably out of the question, but the gates could easily be locked by staff at the leisure centre," he added.
