An outdoor table tennis table and an obstacle course for dogs are among the new facilities coming to two parks in Whitton.

Murray Park and Chase Green are both getting a major facelift in the coming weeks, with fresh amenities for those on two and four legs.

At Murray Park, in Kneller Road, where users recently celebrated its 100th birthday, there will be extra play equipment for toddlers and a new coat of paint for existing apparatus.

A new table tennis table will also be installed, along with additions to the mini skate park, and a new perennial meadow and new pathways will also be created.

At Chase Green, in Redway Drive, there will be a new multi-use games area for sports including football, cricket and basketball.

A new trampoline and swings will also be installed, along with other play equipment, and there will be a 'Bark Park' for canine visitors, complete with obstacles.

Other improvements include the reinstatement of the fence along the A316 service road, to make the site more secure, and the replacement of small trees causing damage to paving and fencing in the park.

Work at both parks is being carried out by Richmond Council following consultation with local residents and is due to be completed by the end of November.

Richmond Council's environmental chief, Councillor Pamela Fleming, said: "Residents have told us how much they value our parks and that is why we continue to invest in them through our parks improvement programme.

"The improvements being made to Chase Green and Murray Park show the council's ongoing commitment to listening to our residents during consultations.

"The partnership we have with our residents made a huge contribution to the borough winning the International Communities in Bloom."

Whitton ward councillor Gareth Elliott welcomed the improvements being made at Murray Park and said the next step was to address the state of the park's dilapidated hall.

He told getwestlondon he hoped to work with the park's nascent friends group to get the building refurbished or rebuilt.

"The example is Kneller Gardens where you have a hall with changing rooms, a community cafe and toilet facilities so people can go and spend a day enjoying the park," he added.

"The hall's not a great advert in its current state for Whitton's main open space. We want to make it a great community asset and make sure more people know about Murray Park."
