Dozens of new police officers are now patrolling the streets of Kensington and Chelsea as part of the Met’s recruitment drive.

Following 12 weeks of training at one of the Met Police’s specialist centres, 42 new bobbies are now out and about in the borough as they continue to train on the job.

During their first 10 weeks the new officers will be instructed by experienced colleagues as part of the practical side of their training.

They will be answering calls and will be on patrol around the borough so look out for them as they help to keep the area safe.

Superintendent Alisdair Ferguson, deputy borough commander for Kensington and Chelsea, said: “Our new recruits are part of a local plan to raise policing visibility on our streets and continue the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour. They are a welcome addition to our policing family here on Kensington and Chelsea in our bid to make the borough an even safer place to live, work and visit.”

The 42 new coppers will be joined by an additional 30 officers between the end of September and November.

This bucks the London-wide trend of unfilled posts in borough police forces but does mean top sergeant roles are still not being filled.
