Neighbours of Hounslow Cavalry Barracks have spoken of their disgust at hearing of a potential Lee Rigby-style plot against soldiers based there.

GetWestLondon reported yesterday how police had alerted soldiers at the military HQ that extremists in the area could be planning a copycat killing in the week Mr Rigby's murderers are due to be sentenced.

People living opposite the barracks, in Beavers Lane, Hounslow, today told of their outrage at the threat and promised to pray for members of the Welsh Guards, who are based there .

Kiran Vara, 27, said: "Living opposite the barracks has always made us feel safer and I'm quite shocked to hear of this. It doesn't make us worried about our security but I hope the soldiers are safe."

Mother-of-three Mala Rattam, 57, said: "We've been concerned for the safety of soldiers at the barracks since the awful attack on Lee Rigby.

"They're always so friendly and they've helped when there have been incidents on the road in the past. We're proud to have them here, and to hear about this threat disgusts and angers me."

Lee Rigby, who served for two years at the Hounslow barracks with The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers , was killed near the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich last May.

Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, said they carried out the horrific attack in revenge for the Army killing Muslims. They were both found guilty of his murder and are due to be sentenced tomorrow (Wednesday, February 26).

Mum-of-two Komal Ghauri, 27, of Barrack Road, Hounslow, said: "This makes me feel quite insecure. We like having the Army here and I feel so sorry for the soldiers. We just have to pray for them."

Jyoti Dhir, a 41-year-old makeup artist, said: "We've lived here for about 10 years and we've always had a good relationship with the soldiers at the barracks.

"I'm really proud to have them here and I remember how they came to the aid of a police officer when she was run over in our road last year."

George Bolton, a 73-year-old former lorry driver, said: "You've sadly always had threats against soldiers, whether it's been from the IRA or Muslim fanatics, and I don't think that's going to change unfortunately."
