Opponents of plans to create a caravan and camp site in Harrow saw the application rejected last night.

Harrow Community Sport wanted to convert part of the grounds of Broadfields Country Club in Headstone Lane, Harrow, into a 75-pitch caravan and camping park.

More than 4,200 people signed a petition opposing the scheme and Harrow Council's planning committee agreed in principle to turn down the application yesterday evening - although because the statutory consultation has not legally finished, the committee had to remit the final decision to the divisional director for planning, who will have to take account of any other representation sent in to the council before the deadline.
