RUSTIE BROWN'S attack on Ann Keen in last week's Chronicle bears all the hallmarks of the smear campaign currently being waged against the Brentford & Isleworth MP on various local websites.

In my opinion, it gives a foretaste of the type of propaganda which the Isleworth Community Group will be circulating during the forthcoming general election campaign.

Ms Brown claims that I am part of an Ann Keen 'fan club'. Well at least she is worthy of one - which is more than can be said for any of her opponents.

Not everyone would agree with Ms Brown's claim that Mrs Keen committed an act of 'genuine nastiness' just for opposing the appointment of a former long-term National Front activist to the council's ruling executive.

Some of us actually admire Ann Keen for standing up for the principles that she - and we - hold dear. Principled politicians are already in short supply. We need more of them, not fewer.
