THE widow of a former Pakistani politician killed in Edgware last week has today issued a heartfelt plea for witnesses to her husband's murder to come forward.

Last Thursday father-of-two Dr Imran Farooq was found suffering from stab wounds and head injuries outside his home in Green Lane.

The 50-year-old, who was a leading member of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Party before fleeing Pakistan for fear of his life, was on his way home from work at MQM's International Secretariat in Edgware High Street when he was attacked shortly before 5.30pm.

His death has sent shock waves through the Pakistani and Muslim communities leaving behind his widow Shumaila Imran and sons Alishan, five, and Wajdan, three.

Speaking for the first time since his murder his wife said: " Today I want to make my own personal appeal for help in catching the people who killed my husband.

"He was a dedicated family man, a loving father and loving husband.

"His murder a week ago has devastated me and left our family in a state of shock and disbelief.

"My husband was on his way home from work when he was set upon and attacked.

"I want to appeal today for anyone who has any information about the attack on Imran to come forward and tell the police what they know.

"Someone, somewhere knows something about my husband's murder.

"It doesn't matter how insignificant this information may seem to you - it could be absolutely vital to the police investigation.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and my family and sent us their best wishes and condolences.

"I would also like to thank the police for their help and support during this very difficult time. "

This afternoon, between 4pm and 6pm, officers will be in and around Green Lane appealing for witnesses and speaking to people who may have been in the area at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information should contact the police incident room on 020 8721 3784 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
