AN MP has defended himself from 'completely untrue' allegations that he was drunk in the House of Commons.

John Randall (Con), who represents Uxbridge and South Ruislip, was accused of having enjoyed a 'liquid evening' last Tuesday, before a debate which stretched into the early hours.

Mr Randall, who is the deputy chief whip for the Tories, said: "It was absolute rubbish to be accused of this.

"It is not true. As the whip, I am not allowed to speak in debates, so was muttering to myself about the hypocrisy of the opposition, and let myself get angry with the person speaking."

Mr Randall was then accused, because of the nature of his muttering, of being inebriated, by shadow Treasury minister, Angela Eagle.

He added: "If the outburst were caused by anything, it was tiredness. I got in at 3.45am that night, and was up again at 6.30am the next morning.

"I am really upset by the whole thing. My constituents will know I am not like that."
