PUPILS from Northwood School who won a host of awards at a national music and social enterprise competition have been praised by their local MP and mentor, Nick Hurd.

The civil society minister and Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner MP helped advise Northwood pupils who entered the Blastbeat 2011 awards last month, where several won prizes in a day-long show at IndigO2 in Greenwich.

Ruislip band Find Me Next Fall were crowned champions after auditioning at Northwood School, as reported in the Gazette on November 1, but the local success didn't stop there.

Student project team No Limits NWD won the Best Community Outreach Award, while students Stefan Lazic and Sachini Gamage won the Best Creative Team Award and Best Ecology Award.

Mr Hurd said all would be rewarded with a visit to the House of Commons. He said: "I am really delighted for Find Me Next Fall and all the other Northwood winners.

"I think the Blastbeat experience was a very positive one for us all and I hope we can get more local schools involved.

"It's a chance for young people to learn useful business skills in a way that is fun and relevant."

Even head of business studies Patrick McLernon and principal Graham Atkins picked up awards for Best Teacher and Best Head Teacher.

Sixth-former Sachini, who acted as CEO of No Limits NWD, said: "I'm very proud of my team, I couldn't have asked for more.

"We hope to continue as No Limits Promotions, teaching younger pupils about business and organising events that make a positive contribution to the local community."
