Controversial politician George Galloway reportedly had his jaw broken in Notting Hill over comments about Israel.

The Respect MP was posing for photographs in Golborne Road on Friday (August 29) evening when a man allegedly shouted comments about the Holocaust before attacking him.

A spokesman for the Bradford West MP said on Saturday he had a suspected broken jaw, a suspected broken rib and severe bruising to his face and head.

Mr Galloway was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington and released on Saturday morning.

Neil Masterson, of Campden Hill, Kensington, is appearing at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court today (September 1) charged with religiously aggravated common assault or beating of the politician.

The 39-year-old is also charged with assault by beating of Mostafa Maarouf at the same time and possession of cannabis.

The attack happened just hours before grandfather Tony Charley was stabbed and killed after leaving the nearby Mau Mau bar in Portobello Road.
