EALING MP Angie Bray has written to the developer which is due to rebuild Ealing's cinema demanding to know why work has still not started despite previous assurances.

The Conserative MP for Ealing Central and Acton, has sent a letter expressing her "disappointment and concern" that there has been no sign of work since it ground to halt in 2008.

It comes after Justin Ribbons, chief executive of Empire Cinemas promised construction would continue within six weeks of Ealing Council signing off changes to the plans - that happened in late November.

Angie Bray said: "This is clearly worrying all of us who have been looking forward to seeing progress after a very long time in which we have simply stared at the rubble.

"You will appreciate that such a long time without a cinema has left Ealing residents impatient for good news and there was a great deal of anticipation and excitement that 2012 would be the start of our new cinema."

Once work begins the £25m complex which will have 20 screens, will take between 60 and 65 weeks to build.

An Empire Cinemas spokesman said: "Empire Cinemas remains fully committed to delivering a new, world-class cinema to the residents of Ealing. Mobilisation is currently underway and work will commence on-site as soon as possible."
