A desperate appeal has been made by the mother of missing school girl Alice Gross who hasn't been seen since Thursday.

Mother of the 14-year-old, Rosalind Hodgkiss, appealed for her daughter to 'let someone know you are safe'.

Alice Gross, who has health concerns, was last seen at 3pm Thursday afternoon when she left her home in Hanwell.

Celebrities including  Graham Norton  and Jonathan Ross have retweeted an online appeal to find her.

Police have conducted searches and house-to house inquiries and say they are "growing increasingly concerned".

The Brentside High School student has been described as being 5ft 2in tall, slim, with shoulder-length light brown hair.

When she was last seen, she was wearing dark blue jeans, a dark green lacy cardigan and denim Van's shoes. She may also be wearing tartan-framed spectacles.

On the  Facebook group Find Alice Gross , the teenager's sister Nina Gross posted an appeal from Ms Hodgkiss.

The girls' mother wrote: "Alice if you can see this, please know sweetheart that all of us love you and miss you desperately.

"You may be sad, you may be angry, you may be hurt, you may be scared too. I just want to hug and hold you.

"Know that we love you and are there for you whatever you are going through.

"My love please get in touch and let someone know you are safe. Alice please come home. Mum xxxxxx"

Nina Gross has thanked people helping with the appeal and said: "It's very important to spread the word out of Ealing to Kew, Richmond, Brentford and other west London places. Thank you again, hopefully she will be found soon."

The "very vulnerable" teenager was last heard from at about 15:00 BST on Thursday.

She does not have her Oyster card with her and her phone appears to be switched off.

On Friday Detective Sergeant David Stokes said: "Her disappearance is totally out of character as she has never been missing before. She left her money, bank cards and Oyster card at home after just apparently walking out with no explanation as to where she was going. She has had no contact with her small network of friends or family since. Her phone is turned off which is very unusual and her Facebook page is inactive. There have been no sightings of her or CCTV footage caught of her which adds to the seriousness of the situation.

"We are flooding the area with specialist officers, dog handlers and helicopters. Every resource that we have got that isn't being deployed on 999 calls is being used to search for Alice. The worry is that she maybe lying hurt somewhere. We are combing Kensington and Chelsea Cemetery and Hanwell Cemetery which her house is close to, as well as her garden and outbuildings in the area as well as the canal and the river. We are extremely worried now as it is over 24 hours since she went missing. She has always made contact with her mother if she's out so this is very out of character for her.

"We are appealing to anyone in the area who walk their dogs or frequent the cemeteries and parks to keep their eyes peeled for her."
