STARTLED shoppers were treated to free treats when a mosque hired an ice cream van to share their celebration of Eid.

The van drove up and down the Uxbridge Road from West Ealing to Ealing Broadway delighting youngsters and pleasantly surprising parents who realised they did not have to pay for the 99s.

It was organised by the West London Islamic Centre, in Brownlow Road, West Ealing, on Bank Holiday Monday August 26.

The congregation had a whip-round to hire the van and celebrate the Eid festival which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Centre chairman Ayaz Khan, said: “We were very pleased with the happy reception received by the WLIC Ealing Mosque free ice-cream van, it was a sincere and wholehearted gesture of goodwill by the mosque and Muslim community to reach out and share the end of Ramadan and Eid celebrations with our local friends and neighbours in Ealing.”
