More rain and strong winds are expected to blast in from the west today, which is likely to affect West London.

The Met office says that this 'new area of rain' coming from the storms off the Azores in the  Atlantic will further saturate the ground and warns of 'potential for further flooding'.

Worst hit will be towns along the Thames and Severn Rivers, which have already had a the equivalent of a month of rain in just two days this week. The Environment Agency expects another 1,000 homes to be flooded in those areas.

Heavy snow is also expected to fall in northern parts of the country.

However, the good news is that rain will clear from the most sensitive areas by Saturday.

The Met Officer's Chief Forecaster's assessment is: "Yet another storm is now developing to the west of the Azores. It will run northeastwards across western parts of the UK during Friday and into Saturday, before clearing to the northeast. The associated frontal systems will bring spells of heavy and persistent rain, especially across the southern parts of England and Wales as well as further very strong winds. 10-20 mm of rain will fall fairly widely in the southeast, with 40 mm possible across parts of the southwest of England and south Wales."
