MILLIONS of pounds is being pumped into improving traffic and transport links in Hammersmith and Fulham.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson rubber-stamped £2.7m worth of Transport for London (TfL) funding to the borough in 2012/13.

Supporting the Mayor's Transport Strategy, it will be spent on major investment in Shepherd's Bush and continued work in Fulham Palace Road.

Mr Johnson said: “London is undergoing a neo-Victorian level of investment in its transport network. Every borough is receiving money that will directly benefit communities, making London an even better to live and work.

“We've also cut bureaucracy to make it easier for boroughs to decide how they want to spend their funding.”

Shepherd's Bush town centre will benefit from £180,000 to improve the streetscape, reduce collisions and provide a better connection to Goldhawk Road and Shepherd's Bush Market.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council is already spending £2.7m on creating a new slip road in Fulham Palace Road to ease gridlock.

And the project, which includes major sub-surface work and will be completed in the new year, will be allocated £575,000 from the Mayor's pot.

Borough schools will be given £160,000 to develop travel plans and improve road safety skills and awareness with children while £55,000 will be spent on cycling training for adults and shared with Kensington and Chelsea Council.

Peter Hendy, London's Transport Commissioner, said: “This investment will build on the excellent work that has already been achieved and complement the huge programme of work we at TfL are undertaking.”
