ELDERLY people are being targeted by thieves posing as repairmen.

Brent Police have had reports about thieves who force victims to transfer large amounts of money after claiming they are doing repairs.

Two men knocked on an elderly resident’s door in Wembley, on October 11.

They stated her roof needed repairing and they would carry out the work and she needed to transfer the money into their account before the work could be done.

Over the next few days the victim received numerous calls from one of the men stating she needed to give more money. The victim transferred money into an account.

The suspect then went to his account and withdrew the money.

After police were notified through the bank, a 39-year-old man was arrested for fraud.

PC Ketan Gami said: “We would urge members of the public to be extra vigilant. If you see anything suspicious or have been approached by anyone of similar circumstances then contact your local police.”
