MOUNDS of memorabilia were a big attraction on Saturday when former pupils turned up to bid farewell to the old John Penrose School building which will be pulled down this summer.

Wendy Rice-Morley, of Sanctuary Close, has been a governor for the past 10 years,

first at John Penrose and more recently at its reincarnation, Harefield Academy, both in the building in Northwood Way.

She said: "A lot of former pupils turned up, including some from the 1950s who were able to tell us about the first building in the High Street, which was called Harefield Secondary School.

"People turned up with old photos and even school reports, and many signed up for a brick for £1 for when the building is demolished, which will help fund students on school trips."

The new Harefield Academy building will open in September.
